INVITATION TO JOIN THE MG CAR CLUB! WHAT IS THE MG CAR CLUB? The MG Car Club was originally established in 1930 and the headquarters of the “Mother” Club is in Abingdon, England, on the site of the original MG factory. The Club has a total membership exceeding 10 000 which is spread amongst various “centres” in many different countries and regions throughout the world. Each centre is an autonomous Club with its own constitution and management committee and each centre is also affiliated to the “Mother” Club in England. South Africa has six MG Car Club centres of which the Johannesburg Centre is the largest with more than 300 members. We are the KwaZulu-Natal Centre, and the other centres are Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Border and Northerns. THE MG CAR CLUB - KWAZULU-NATAL CENTRE This is the oldest centre outside the UK, having been established in 1939. Les Miller, who is the National President, was the first Chairman. We have 3 events per month. On the first Sunday we hold a fun run, which four times a year is competitive, and for which trophies are awarded. A “Natter and Noggin” is held, usually on the second Friday evening, this is held at various members’ homes and is normally a ‘bring and braai’ with salads, rolls and sweets provided, for which a small charge is made. For the “retired and free” thus its name, R.A.F., a run on the third Tuesday to various locations is held. A monthly Centre Newsletter is generated and sent out to all Club members and our cars are often requested to be shown at charitable and other functions. WHAT OTHER BENEFITS ARE THERE? Advice, support and assistance is always available regarding the source and availability of spares, or any special services that MG owners may require. Advice can also be given to assist those wishing to import spares from overseas. If required, members may join a group car insurance scheme, which offers substantial benefits, especially to owners of older or unusual MGs, at very competitive premiums. This service also includes the assessment and valuation of members’ cars. The Club is affiliated to the international MG Car Club in England, as well as a member of the South African National Body which in turn is affiliated to the South African Marque Clubs Association. Every two years a National Indaba is held and Centres take it in turn to host the event. KZN were hosts in the years 1994 & 2006. In 2008 the Indaba will be held in Port Elizabeth.
